It Takes a Village: Dr. Jennifer R.'s Inspiring EPPP Journey

I remember reviewing the Master Plan and feeling excited to dive in and start filling out the self-guided materials. What I did not expect was the trouble I had identifying my support system during this journey. I’m not sure about you all, but my family never understood the exam process or why it was “taking so long” since I had graduated a while ago.

I wrote down friends, but I also didn’t feel they truly understood my struggles. Even my best friend, who has always been in my corner, supportive and encouraging, passed the exam on the first try over 10 years ago. She didn’t fully grasp why I wasn’t passing because “I knew the material.” She also didn’t always understand why I wasn’t communicating as much and would sometimes make comments about us growing distant.

The truth is, I was drowning in my own world of studies, and no one had cute floaties to help.

That changed with my small group cohorts, parallel study sessions, and check-ins with Dr. Erica. I also became more active in the Skool group, and suddenly I found so many cute floaties coming my way. I grew close to people I had only interacted with virtually, and together we celebrated wins, supported each other through life challenges, and carried one another through rough patches.

I will never forget the cohort group I almost missed because my dog had passed away the day before. I showed up vulnerable and crying, and I will forever be thankful for how everyone created space for me and held me in a way I had never experienced before. It was genuine and real.

I received gifts, cards, emails, prayers, and messages from people in that group and even from others in parallel groups who noticed my demeanor change or my absence and reached out. The friendships and support made within this program have been invaluable. That is part of what makes Crush That Exam so special.

We all connect at different times, and no matter where you are in the program, people will become your village and lift you up, providing floaties in moments you didn’t even know you needed.

I encourage everyone to connect with one or more people in their groups. Check in, send encouraging memes, and remind people that they matter. This process can feel very isolating and lonely at times, and I am just so happy we have each other.

Thank you, Dr. Erica, for always being in everyone’s corner and for being our biggest cheerleader. You have made this community a safe space for me and for so many others.
